As we charge through 2013, you’ve probably got to that point where the good intentions and New Year’s resolutions of 1st January 2013 seem like a distant past. The gym membership may be gathering dust again, the diet shakes have been pushed to the back of the cupboard and the vices have crept back into our lives. Damn those resolutions!
The Zappas Salons
Let our hair salons inspire you with a resolution you’ll enjoy keeping – a new year’s HAIR resolution. We’ve scoured the catwalks, the red carpets and we’ve got out our hairdressing crystal ball to bring you the hottest hair trends of 2013. Which of these new year hairstyles will inspire you to make a hair style change this year?
The Micro Fringe
Fringes are HUGE in 2013. Not only are our traditional fringe hairstyles, blunt fringes and sweeping fringes all still very much out there, the micro fringe is where it’s at for the most popular 2013 hair trend. Ann Hathaway’s performance of Fantine and her short short hairstyle in Les Miserables has already helped inspire a legion of short pixie crops this year. In addition to the shorter hairstyles, micro fringe hairstyles (which sees the hairline rise as high as possible) is most definitely a hairstyle that’s on trend this year.
Low Pony Hairstyles
We love this low pony hair trend. The low ponytail hairstyle looks so effortlessly chic and is so simple! Wear your ponytail as low as possible to recreate this popular hairstyle in 2013. The trick with this hair style is to style your hair very sleek, straight, smooth and create as much length as possible. Don’t worry if your hair isn’t long enough to recreate this horse’s tail effect naturally – speak to your Zappas stylist about the hair extension options available as Zappas.
Knot and Ballet Bun Hairstyles
Top knot hairstyles were popular with many celebrities in 2012. Nicole Richie seemed to adopt this look for every red carpet occasion. Whilst the top knot hair style is still as popular this year, we are seeing the knot itself move south to the nape or low at the side. Knots, chignons and twists are always a winning hair style with the 2013 big hair trend proving to be sleek ballet buns. Cheat your way to a perfect smooth ballet bun hairstyle using a bun ring to add volume and hold the style perfectly in place.
Natural Grunge Hairstyles
“Hallelujah!” Cry the ladies who don’t like to spend an age styling their hair. For the grunge/natural hair trend means you could possibly just fall out of bed and still look bang on trend. These easy going hair styles and hair trends can be created using backcombing, twisting damp hair into buns then setting, drying and untwisting into this uncomplicated natural looking hair style. Rock n roll waves will be a big hit with this year as will loose uncomplicated up do hairstyles.
Braided & Bow Hairstyles
Plaits and braids will always be a girl’s best friend. Plaits and braids are a stylish way to tie back your hair, a simple way to frame a hairstyle, and a dramatic braided look will leave bystanders saying “wow”. Plaits, braids and weave hairstyles are girly, youthful and fun. Intricate waterfall braids, rose plaits, fishtail braids, kipper plaits and even braids with bows made from hair have been seen on celebrities all over the world. Here are some of our favourite braided hairstyles and bow hair styles:
Hair Colour Trends 2013
The Dip Dye Ombre Trend in 2013
Whilst many thought the Ombre hair colour trend was on it’s way out last year, this recession busting hair trend dug it’s heels in and stayed around. In 2013, expect the Ombre hair colour trend to evolve from the harsh two tone hair colour effect to the more natural looking sunkissed balayage hair colour trend. Balayage means ‘sweeping’ in French and this hair colouring technique of highlighting hair using sweeping brush strokes is expected to see a huge rise in popularity. Highlighting strands of hair to frame the face and take sunkissed sections from the mid point down can produced striking results. Think beachy, surfer girl highlights. Here are a few of our favourite celebrities with balayage hairstyles:
Of course, the two tone dip dye effect will still remain but we expect it to be much more colourful and playful. Think youthful rainbow ombres and pastel two tone shades that will really make you stand out.
Pastel Hair Colour Trend
Lavender pastel hair colours were popular last year alongside pink and chalky hues. The fashion for hair chalking in 2012 really inspired stylists and colour technicians over the globe to experiment with some of the most vibrant colours on the spectrum. In 2013 expect these hair colours to have a slightly milky hue with the rise in popularity of yellow pastel hair colours in spring and summery shades like daffodil.
