Ombré or Balayage – Which Hair Colour Is Right For Me?

When it comes to hair colour, some of the most common questions our hair colour technicians get asked are ‘What is the difference between balayage and ombré?’ and what is colour melting?’  The aim of this article is to explain the various hair colour techniques we can use to achieve the look you’re after.

Beautiful Balayage Hair Colours for Women

Balayage hair colour is still trending heavily with no signs of slowing down. The word ‘balayage’ means to “paint” or “sweep” in French. It is a technique that our expert hair colour technicians can use to apply highlights to your hair.  When adding hair colour we can use a variety of colours from brunettes, reds and blondes to fashion colours. We can add your hair colour exactly where you want it. The look can be as subtle or as dramatic as you wish and the dye will be applied to the hair freehand, using vertical strokes, just as if you were painting colour onto the hair.

The Best Ombré Hair Colours

The word ombré is derived from the French term for ‘shadow’.  It is a hair technique in which the gradual lightening of the hair strand takes place, from a darker to a lighter colour – with the ends of the hair being a different colour to the roots. It can be a soft or bolder transition of colour from root to tip – your choice! The result is most often a more defined colour which is more obviously darker at the roots becoming lighter towards the ends.  It is great if you are looking for something bolder and more striking and depending on the look you desire, you may see a dramatic ‘two tone’ effect and we can create ombré using a multitude of colours.

If you want multiple highlights in similar tones, our colour technicians can create a gorgeous blend of colours using the colour melting technique. This form of adding colour involves blending multiple shades of hair colour with your base hair colour. You can opt for a bold fashion colour as your base – perhaps a pretty pink, lilac or rose gold colour – or we can add dimension to your natural hair colour.
