How Can I Explain The Hair Colour I Want To My Colourist?

Don't worry if you can't give a name to a hair colour that you've seen, if you want a specific hair colour then please do bring images with you to your consultation. Your Zappas expert can assess the colours and using our wide range of options create the perfect hair colour that you desire. 

What Is A Patch Test?

Thankfully, allergic reactions to hair colour are quite rare, but they can happen at any time and for a variety of reasons which could include a change in medication, illness or hormonal imbalances.  It is, therefore, important to follow our guidelines when it comes to patch testing.

If you haven't had a colour service at Zappas or it's been more than six months since your last colour service with us then we will need to carry out a simple patch test 48 hours prior to your hair colour service. 

What Is Balayage?

We understand it can be difficult keeping up with the latest hair trends and terminology, our team work to stay ahead of trends and up to date with the latest techniques so you don't have to! One of the most sought-after hair colour services in recent times is balayage, but what is it?

Balayage is a technique of highlighting where the hair colour is hand-painted in vertical sections throughout your hair. Your Zappas colourist will blend different shades to give a more natural sun-kissed look which is subtly darker at the roots than the ends, giving a less obvious root regrowth when your hair begins to grow again. Balayage is a popular low maintenance hair colour option. 

I'm Pregnant, Can I Still Have My Hair Coloured?

Congratulations! According to the NHS, most research into colouring your hair during pregnancy and breastfeeding indicates that it is safe to colour your hair, due tot he low levels of chemicals making contact with your skin. Many pregnant women wait until after the first trimester to have their hair coloured but please read the official NHS guidelines for colouring your hair when pregnant.

If you do decide to colour your hair during pregnancy why not consider a balayage hair colour, highlights or even semi permanent hair colours, which will have less contact with your skin and create fewer chemical fumes. 

I'm Under 16, Can I Have My Hair Coloured at Zappas?

No. We do not offer hair colour for clients under the age of 16. 

How Much Will My Hair Colour Service Cost? 

Our stylists have different skill levels and are graded according to the amount of experience & expertise they have had in the hairdressing industry. This is reflected in the price of each service. During your hair colour consultation we will be able to quote for your hair colour appointment based upon your chosen stylist and service.

Can I Get Blonde Hair In One Appointment?

Please be aware that a major hair colour transformation, such as transitioning from very dark hair to blonde, takes time, patience and money. It will often take more than one appointment to allow us to lift the colour of your hair safely, without damaging the integrity of your strands.

During your hair colour consultation we will assess the condition of your hair to make sure it is healthy enough to cope with a dramatic colour change.

Of course! We love Olaplex both during the hair colour service and as a stand alone salon treatment to nourish, repair and protect hair from damage. We even have a range of Olaplex home hair care products to keep your hair healthy and strong in between salon visits.
